PRODUCTION DETAILS

The plan is to build a scaled-down representation of the Sempra coal fired power plant. The intention is to mimic and caricature Sempra's artist's picture of their preposterous potential power plant project planned for 6 miles north of Gerlach in the Smoke Creek Desert.

The structure has a footprint of 16 feet x 16 feet, and consists of two 8' x 6' sections standing 10 feet tall and a connecting structure 8' x 16' x 6' tall. It is made of 1/2" plywood and 2" x 4" with a single door, pegboard interior walls, cardboard insulation, and a roof of road cloth or canvas, allowing ventilation and prohibiting climbing on the structure. There will also be plexiglas windows along the top edge of the 10' sections. Plexiglas will be removed prior to any immolation.

Inside the building, there will be materials describing the power plant, media attention the project has received, the project's ramifications and effects, and information about ways to get involved to oppose the coal plant project.

We will also have some external touches such as a pile of coal, water slurping tubes, and transmission towers. The transmission towers are made of lightweight materials and can be carried around by our troupe of industrialists for eminent domain installation through various locations in BRC. INdustrialist will be identifiable by their hardhats, orange vests, and Granite Skunk logo. We may even link to a spire occasionally. The building will be lit at night inside and out with power generated by solar panels.

Another prominent feature will be a smokestack about 15' to 24' high (we may add more.) The smokestack consists of 5 - 55 gal. barrels welded together at this point, and we will add fuel injectors midway along the column, a propane pilot towards the bottom, and a fan with vents at the very bottom. The stack will be secured either with a bracket to the top of the building, welded or lashed to a pipe sunk into the ground, or we may just use guy wires. The effect we seek is a large black smoke ring issued on demand.

I think we will serve noxious-looking drinks from bottles marked "Mercury-- POISON!!" made of some combination of liquors. Other touches under development deep in the conclave.

Rumor has it that our industialists may be met with "violent protest," culminating in the destruction of the structure by fire, therefore the entire building will be built on top of an @ 20' x 20' burn platform. The platform will be constructed with a bottom layer of burn cloth, then approximately 500 fire bricks placed with spaces for ventilation, and finally a layer of sheet metal. I'll be coordinating with DPW to help with ash removal, but likely our industrialists will make short work of it. Combustion dynamics will be taken into consideration, and the building will be reconfigured for immolation prior to burning Friday evening, removing toxic materials as necessary. Diesel/kerosene will be added to the cardboard wall insulation, strategic weaknesses will be introduced to improve the likelihood that it will collapse inward, and for extra fluffer some pockets of white gas will be added.

STOP THE SEMPRA POWER PLANT

San Diego-based Sempra Energy is proposing under its Granite Fox subsidiary to construct a 1,450 megawatt coal-fired power plant 6 miles north of Gerlach, NV that will release dangerous pollutants into the air, deplete the local water supply, and prevent the development of clean, renewable energy resources in order to generate electricity for Southern California.

The plant will cost roughly $2 billion, take about five years to build, burn 6-7 million tons of coal each year, force out development of geothermal and wind energy in the region, and bring over 2 miles of coal railroad cars through Gerlach every dayunsupportable human and vehilce through Gerlach.. If this plant is built, the pollution will affect air quality and seriously diminish the clarity of the skies above the Black Rock Desert.
